To date, we have planted over a thousand trees round the school.
Most households cook on charcoal so many of the wonderful Mopani forests that used to cover the whole of Zambia have been seriously denuded. The Government is trying to control this practice and educate local people in regeneration but it is a very slow process. We have planted a large plantation around the John Hunt Primary School made up of mango trees and over a hundred other native trees. The children take responsibility for their growth as an educational initiative.
We have also planted many moringa trees in the villages in which our orphans live as their nutritional and healing value is immense. The leaves have 7 times more vitamin C than oranges and 15 times more potassium than bananas, plus calcium, protein, iron, and amino acids.
